49th Annual National Shrimp Festival Poster
For the first time in many years, a local artist has been chosen as the winner of the Annual National Shrimp Festival poster contest. This year’s honor goes to Gulf Shores artist and entrepreneur Tara McMeans. A graphic designer since 2000, McMeans holds a degree in commercial art from Faulkner State (now Coastal Alabama Community College). She has also been certified by the Southeast Tourism Society in festivals and events along with travel marketing. McMeans is no stranger to the Annual National Shrimp Festival. Besides being a local resident and former Shrimp Festival Committee Member, she has submitted entries for many years, placing in the top three more than once. Along with her poster being the face of the festival and being featured on various pieces of advertising and merchandise, she will be presented with a cash prize of $1000 and will be present on Oct. 10 during the Annual National Shrimp Festival to sign posters and souvenirs for festival attendees. “It has always been a dream of mine to have my art represented at the Annual National Shrimp Festival,” McMeans said. “I entered the poster contest 8 years in a row and never gave up. Anything is possible if you put your mind to it and keep trying!” |
