Congratulations to Red Owen of Ragley, Louisiana
POSTER SIGNING INFO: Saturday, October 12th - 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Near Festival Merchandise Tent Red Owen, a 72-year-old artist and U.S. Army veteran from Ragley, La., has won the 51st Annual National Shrimp Festival poster contest. This year’s selection was made by a committee of nearly 100 volunteers who sought submissions that captured the festival's essence, focusing on the beach, shrimp, art, and music. Owen, who has been creating art for 40 years, entered our contest for the first time, drawing inspiration from Jimmy Buffett. Born and raised in the New Orleans area, Owen joked that he “wasted his youth” in the French Quarter, where he would often listen to Buffett who was a mere busker at the time. “I’ll never forget he would come down on the weekends in an old Ford,” Owen said. As the winner, Owen's art will represent the festival in marketing and merchandising, and he will receive a $1,000 cash prize along with an opportunity for a poster signing at the festival.
